Camen @ 2 1/2 years

Just a few more weeks and my baby will be 2 1/2 years old. I wanted to document some of his fun quirks and hobbies so I can remember down the road.

A while back The Incredible's was Camden's favorite movie and I'm sure I could recite every scene without hesitation. Here lately he's been into Despicable Me and requests it every single day. I can't wait to get him the second movie soon!

He's also very much into pretending and being very active. He is so sweet with his manners and being helpful (most of the time). He always says please and thank you (or "thanks" now, for some reason). He says, "excuse me" if you are in his way. He knows his first and last name. Miss Katie and Miss Jenn are his teachers and they are always saying how happy and cooperative he is. He always knows every animal, shape, color, letter, number, etc. When they are singing a song he knows, they say he will bust out in a solo all the time. Amazing kiddo!

He's a garbage-disposal/sponge. He eats everything on his plate and then asks for more. He eats more than I do on some days! Snacks are a must-have around here. He also is a little sponge; more so than I thought. True life confession: I was changing his diaper the other day and he kept running around the house yelling, "I have diarrhea!!!" What I didn't realize was that I'd said that while changing him. Good thing I didn't say something worse. Also a good thing we were home for the rest of the night. HA!

At home he loves to play with trains, Matchbox cars, watch movies, pretend cook for us (or really pretend anything). He has transitioned to the big boy toddler bed although one day while I was working, Brad apparently didn't wake up as soon as Cam would've liked. He played "finger paint" on the carpet with some diaper contents we won't talk about.

Must be payback for when I did it to my mom.

He absolutely loves going to school. And grandma's house. He is so sociable! At school he apparently greets everyone in his class by name in the morning. He always has the "Ate everything" column checked off for all meals and snacks. Naps are usually 80-90% there, but some days he doesn't want to nap. This is the ripe age for discontinuing naps unfortunately.

Please.
No.
I need that mid-day break.

He loves to sing songs. Just the other day he sang Jingle Bells to me almost perfectly. :) He's also really getting into the Christmas movies, lights, decorations, and other songs right now. I think this will be the most fun year for opening presents with him yet!

Unfortunately he has started to hate having his picture being taken. (It couldn't possibly be from me constantly taking them.) If he sees the iPhone pointed at him, he waves his hands and says, "No, no picture!" Celebs. Pfft.

The potty training we are letting him do on his own. I want him to tell me when he's ready (to a certain point). It is going to make it easier on both of us and we really don't have the time to dedicate to it .. if I'm being honest. At school they said he goes once in a while but always tries to sit for a little bit. If we catch him right after waking up from night time or nap, we will ask him if he has to go and he usually says yes and has success going. He holds his bladder most of the night/nap so we can tell if he's got to go because his diaper is dry. Right as he's getting tucked into bed he says over and over that he has to go potty (because he knows it'll delay bed time) so we have started asking him while getting ready if he has to go.

Camden used to be a momma's boy and is quickly preferring Brad over myself. (*moment to mourn*) It's so bittersweet to see them together, bonding, yet sad because he wants his daddy to read to him at night and rock with him. He will let me, but only if Brad isn't around. I think Brad secretly loves this phase because it's making up for the first year when Cam preferred me (especially for nutritional needs .. lol). I keep telling myself it's from my lack of presence because of work and school. It's temporary. Just a little while longer.

He constantly tells us what he thinks. If something is fun, sad, funny, or happy he will tell us. If he is happy or silly, he tells us. If we make funny noises or do something odd he will tell us, "You're silly!" Also, everything is Camden's. In the entire world. Driving down the street the conversation from the back seat is, "That's my store. That's my truck. That's my school. That's my gym." Sometimes he'll say it's "Camden's" also. He is getting better at sharing, but rarely his food.

CAMDEN. DOESN'T. SHARE. FOOD. (FRIENDS reference)

Even if it's something he knows he likes or wants, if we give him something (say, a cookie) and ask him to give it to mommy or daddy, he will do so. Of course, then he will ask for one. ;-) He is constantly hungry (something I'm definitely bringing up to the pediatrician next visit/call).

Sometimes he does hug our dog, Cato, and tries to play with him. Cato is just so nonchalant and lazy that he doesn't do much so Cam just ignores him most of the time.

That's about it for updates on the little man. He's always on the move and wanting to play and interact with us, which is so much fun (and exhausting sometimes).

Camden is officially mobile

Camden has learned to crawl and sit up from crawling so he is officially (and extremely) mobile!

Although I am excited for him, I'm also a little nervous at the same time. I already miss the times I could lay him down on the ground and he'd be at least in the vicinity of where I left him if I have to go do something real quick.

He also has learned how to wave. He doesn't quite yet wave to strangers, but he does to himself in the mirror and to mom and dad! :) He has so much energy and love. It's too precious sometimes.

He is also cutting another tooth. This one is on his top, left side. That part of the day is not-so-precious, if you know what I mean.

Camden the crawler

Yes, you read the title right. Camden is starting to learn how to crawl. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. My little boy is growing up so fast! In the past two days, he's starting to pull his legs up underneath of himself while on his belly. Quickly he has learned how to move towards toys (and inadvertently away, too). He is simply the most amazing kid I could have ever asked for!

LOOK AT THOSE STRONG MUSCLES!!

He is also getting much better at sitting up for several minutes at a time before tumbling over. His balance and coordination has drastically improved; even from just last week!

He is around 15 pounds right now and I'm expecting him to gain 1-2 ounces a week at most to level off since he just had a big gain. I think all the fortified milk we were supplementing with caused his drastic gain in weight, which in my opinion was unnecessary. I know he needs to gain weight but that was a lot for his age. Oh well. He caught up so now we can get back on track.

Milestones - November 2011

I haven't updated on Cam's weight recently because, well, there hasn't been any change. I'm taking him to see the pediatrician tomorrow and see if there is anything we need to do on our part. He isn't hungry, my supply is great, he sleeps through the night, and is hitting his milestones early or on time. There is really no reason I need to take him other than not gaining weight. Sometimes I think it'd be easier to just not weigh him each week at the BFing group...

Speaking of milestones..

Camden has started grabbing his feet, which is the most adorable thing ever (besides his laugh, of course)! He is also rolling completely on his own whenever he wants to do so. Just today, he started "scooching" on his belly. He actually gets his knees curled up underneath his belly and kicks/propels himself forward! It's so amazing to watch him grow up although it does go by quickly.

Rolling - belly to back

Yesterday (October 2, 2011) was a HUGE milestone for Camden. He rolled over from his belly to his back. I couldn't believe it the first time he did it and I thought maybe it was an accident. Nope! I got the camera and he did it THREE MORE TIMES! After that he was pretty wore out because it was right before bed time and we had already been playing with him for at least an hour.

Check out the video for yourself! :) It makes me smile every single time!

How did we go from this..

to this..

.. in no time flat!?

Seems like just yesterday we were coming home from the hospital with a tiny little thing! Now he is holding his head up, laughing, babbling, playing, grabbing things, mouthing toys; all 12.5 pounds of him! My big boy is growing up way too quickly. He is 12 weeks today! Officially not 3 months for another eight days though. I'm so grateful that I was able to stay home with him for so long, but mommy really needs a full-time job. I have a few prospects that I think should work out great. Updates will come soon; hopefully with good news!

A Labor Story

(Repost from early July)

Now that it's been a week with the little one, I figured I might try to update a bit. It's such a different experience; something you don't quite expect. We planned this pregnancy and we were really excited about becoming parents, but we had no idea what we had signed up for until he was here. It's both the hardest and most rewarding thing we've ever done. I love every second of it (except maybe the sleep deprivation).

How it happened:

I spent the day last Wednesday, June 29th just running a bunch of errands. I went to visit my great grandma who isn't doing so well, went to a friends house to buy some of her sons clothes he doesn't wear anymore, etc. I finally got home around 4:00pm and laid down for a nap. I honestly don't know if I was asleep when it happened or it happened right as I was waking up. My water broke while I was laying in bed. Luckily it was such a different (read: gross) experience that I knew exactly what it was and ran to the bathroom.

I called my husband who was at the gym to come home and that my water broke. He rushed home and we headed to the hospital. One thing people never tell you is that when your water breaks, it doesn't stop. Joy.

Anyways we made it to the hospital and they admitted me right away since it was obvious that my water was broken; aka it looked like I'd peed my pants. So then I got an IV and pitocin to help jump start contractions since it was a few hours and I felt nothing. Then finally at 10:45pm I felt some hard contractions and I asked for the epidural at 11:00pm.

I slept a little after getting the epidural. If anyone wants to know what it feels like, it feels exactly like you just went to the dentist. When you get a filling and they numb your mouth and you feel like you have chipmunk cheeks, that's it. My entire lower half felt just like that! I could feel my legs but I didn't feel pain... thankfully.

So it finally came time to push the next morning around 9:35am. I pushed for 2.5 hours and Camden Ryan finally came. He had no meconium so they were able to put him right on my chest. I had no idea I could ever feel the way I did when I saw his face, but it's something I just can't describe. I loved it. I forgot about every pregnancy woe, painful day, complaints of sore feet. I was focused on this little amazing human that just was in my belly seconds before.

Yeah, we both balled like babies. He was ours. Something we made together. Someone we will love and cherish for the rest of our days. We were now fully responsible for this tiny 8 pound, 7 ounce baby. We were in such shock and awe that we forgot to have Brad cut the cord so they just went ahead and did it.

After a few minutes with mom, he was whisked away for measurements, cleaning and to get ankle bracelets. The whole time I was continuing to lay in the bed, I couldn't take my eyes away. I had no focus other than on him. I didn't care about the doctor stitching me up or waiting for my placenta to come out. (Nobody said childbirth was pretty.) I didn't care that the epidural was wearing off quickly. I just wanted my baby to be healthy and okay.

The two nurses I had for the last shift of my labor were amazing. They were in our room the entire 2.5 hours I was pushing. They consistently gave me feedback and encouragement so that the time really flew by. It only seemed like 30 minutes to me, really.

I thank God for the beautiful and healthy baby boy we were blessed with.
